Statistical significance concerns the ability to make assertive statements about the universe based on a sample. A large difference between two values is statistically significant, while it is quite possible that a small difference is a statistically significant difference (e.g. 0.5 percentage points) or that there was a smaller difference because the size and heterogeneity of the sample influence the relative errors in the data tested. Figures that differ statistically do not necessarily mean that the difference has economic or practical significance.
